Jun. 4th, 2003 03:25 pmSince I worked late last night, I got to come in late today.
Ordinarily, that would be an occasion for much rejoicing.
Unfortunately, the dog woke me at 6:30am, and I couldn't go back to sleep, so I laid in bed and listened to Good Morning America and, subsequently, Bush's speech.
I don't remember much about it ( obviously, I was more dozing than not ), but I do remember thinking that it was a well-crafted, appropriately moving speech . . . totally ruined by the last sentence, which was something to the effect of, "And may God bless our endeavor."
I do not consider myself particularly rabid about the separation of church and state, but that really struck me as over-the-top. Completely gratuituous. Had absolutely no business being tacked on to a Presidential speech. He's not in church, for crying out loud -- he's addressing the nation, and not everyone in it believes in his God or approves of petitioning for His support at every turn.
I am supremely offended.
