Hey there! I found something that kicked my ass into posting! Go me!

If you are *not* watching Prison Break, you should reschedule your life as needed in order to see the encore premiere on Thursday night.

I could almost watch it with my eyes closed, just to listen to Wentworth Miller's incredible voice . . . almost. But the face that goes with that voice is just too damn pretty to miss out on seeing.

Mmmmmm. Shiny new fandom. Yessssssssss.

This is not a terribly realistic view of prison, from what I understand. I say, if you want realism, go watch Oz.

This is just hot, dirty, brothercest slash-in-the-making and oh, just kill me now, because I just keep crossing these lines into ever-more-perverted stuff!

And speaking of perversions, who is going to point me to spoilers for The 4400 season finale )

It figures. The only ep I've ever seen, and the *finale* is the one that's giving me wet dreams.

*headdesk*

Lately, I've noticed that the current fashion in Hollywood seems to be towards beautiful boys ( of varying ages ), with sloe eyes and cocksucking lips. The all look like they should be working in brothels.

I heartily approve, and pray the trend continues. *evil grin*

In other matters, I'm back to to pecking at Medieval CLex. To those of you who are writers . . . what do you find to be the most effective method to get your head into a story that you need to write? This story has become so huge that as I re-read it and try to figure out where to go, I just can't put myself back into it. I can't remember my outline of the story . . . and no, before you ask -- I didn't make notes like a sensible critter.

So? Ideas? Suggestions? Hell, prompt me even.

If you'd like, you can email me privately at redheaded underscore firecracker zero one at yahoo dot com, or ping me on Yahoo Messenger at the same handle, for further discussion. I would greatly appreciate it.

Because I need help, people. More than the the usual sort, so you can quit your snickering . . . .

*eyes back row of theater darkly*

Sigh. I'm just stumped. I look at all that I have written so far, and I like it, but I have no idea where I was going with it. It's like this horribly orphaned story or something. I wasn't using anything as a template, so it's not like I can grab a novel I was reading and check to see what its protagonists did next or anything.

Which I wouldn't, anyway, because that feels sort of like plagiarism.

Anyway, I have until September 26 to get back on that horse ( or should I say 'that mule'? ) of this story. Because classes start again on that date, and I want to be finished, or nearly so, before I have to put all my free time into friggin' school again.

*makes big, pitiful anime eyes*

Please help!

Damn, but this section was a struggle. I'm just bouncing around, writing scenes as I think of them. I'll plug them into some kind of order when this monster is finally finished. Whenever that may be.

For [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore, who poked very nicely and inspired me to go back and stare at this for a while, today.

More Medieval CLex! Whoo-hoo! )

Best. Thing. Ever.

The interrogation of a fourteenth-century cross-dressing male prostitute.

I pretty much died laughing.

Last night, in a fit of obsessive-compulsive attention to detail, I got to talking with the student worker on duty about medieval Africa, and where Pete was likely to come from in that time period. I learned a lot of interesting new things, and gave an impromptu lecture on the history behind the mythos of Robin Hood, and it was all quite fun. The last part of the conversation goes like this:

Redheaded Firecracker: . . . and so that's the Magna Carta, which the nobles forced King John to sign at the meadow of Runnymeade, in 1215.

Student Worker: Pretty cool.

RF: You know what's really cool about it? Tradition has that it was signed on June 15! That's my birthday!

SW: You are such a dork.

RF: But in a good way, right?

Hee.

And I promptly went and corrected my story so that it more accurately reflects the name of the area where a medieval Pete was likely to have originated. I am such a rivet-counter.

But doesn't it drive you absolutely nuts when someone is writing a historical novel and they've got their facts wrong? The tiniest details help make a story great, and mistakes just ruin it. Don't you think?

Or maybe that's just me.

Well? Whatcha think?

Whoo-hoo! After all these months, look what I finally produced!

Medieval CLex snippery. )

Thanks to everyone who encouraged me, listened to me whine, and generally held my hand during the last year while I struggled with this!

It's not much, but anything is better than nothing. I hope it's as much a pleasure to read as it was to write.

Because it's been awhile . . . .

Here be snippet of Medieval CLex. )

Well? What do you think?
redfirecracker: (Default)
Okay, everybody. Here's your big chance to tell me what you want to see in Medieval!Clex.

Pipe up! Don't be shy! I'm blocked and I need some ideas. I can't guarantee that the ideas will make it into the story, but I'm hoping that they'll trigger a much-needed spate of creativity.

I've blocked out a very vague timeline of events and I finally have a title, so I consider that to be progress . . . I just need some brainstorming here.

Please? ::: makes big, pitiful anime eyes :::

I couldn't very well leave Lionel out of the story, now could I?

ETA: This actually takes place between Parts II and IV. I think. Well, it's after the bath and before the revelation, anyway.

Medieval Clex, Part V. )

So? What do you all think? Is this working?

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to write in the other characters that we know and hate. I mean love. If I do . . . Lana goes to a nunnery at the earliest opportunity!

Opinions?

For those of you looking for more of my story, keep reading. There's a cut tag at the end for you.

So . . . the post-birthday week went fairly well. There was TGIFriday's for lunch on Wednesday -- which was actually an interesting amalgation of "Happy Birthday", "Welcome New Person", and "Good Riddance to Useless-Waste-of-Space-Person".

Now that's the way to kill birds with stones -- three different purposes, three different people, all in one fell swoop.

[livejournal.com profile] lucifrix took me to a place called Jones for a birthday dinner on Friday night. It was a nifty experience, and the fried chicken was absolutely wonderful -- as were the chicken-and-shrimp dumplings. It was also nice to have the chance to talk outside of work.

On Saturday night, I worked until eight at the mall, and then Amanda and I snuck off and went to dinner at a new place in the area called GoodFellas. I say "snuck off" because the management very blatantly disapproves of our friendship and has gone so far as to attempt to institute a ban on fraternization at or outside of work.

What the fuck?

We're both just salespeople, so it's not like there's some sort of favoritism thing going on. The only thing I can think of is that TPTB has discovered our nefarious plot to take over the world!!

Ahem. Got a little carried away there. Anyway, it's weird no matter how you slice it.

So, you know . . . lots of birthday goodness going on this week.

In other news, I hear that [livejournal.com profile] thamiris will be writing a Clark/Lex Inquisition story. Although initially I was quite excited, because I love her stories and am ceaselessly impressed by her writing skills . . . I'm quite worried about how my poor little Medieval Clex will suffer in comparison.

I mean . . . Thamiris doesn't do metaphors. She does conceits. Her similes are like monuments, her plots are never less than Biblical in length, and the quality of her themes makes the Mariana Trench look like a creekbed.

Sigh. I can't wait to read whatever she writes, and yet I am now creatively paralyzed with fear . . . mostly that nothing I could write would ever measure up, and that my story would look like a shoddy knockoff in comparison.

Maybe that's just the rabid insecurity talking.

So in a fit of some insanity, I jumped ahead in my story and wrote "The Revelation of Attraction" scene.

Part I.
Part II.
Part III.

Whew. This is unbelievably hard.

But I think I'm doing well . . . one page the first day, two pages the second, and three on this, the third day of my travail.

Medieval Clark and Lex, Part III. )

Well? Opinions? Ideas? Questions? Come on, people, please! This is so hard, I'm close to giving up.
redfirecracker: (Default)
Good sirs, gentles and common alike, do cease thy jape and varletry before one who seekest only to amuse for full sport and wit.

In other words . . . people, both faculty and students, leave me the FUCK alone when I'm trying to write!!!

I want to put up a sign that says, "GO AWAY."

Although, given my current topic, perhaps it should say, "Avaunt! for I am but an ort of thy imagining."

Anyway. Here be dragons. I mean, snippet.

More Medieval Clark and Lex. )

Do comment me on my progress. I have the feeling I'll be needing a lot of ego-stroking as this progresses. It's damned hard work
redfirecracker: (Default)
Fascinating.

Word recognized Middle English. How lovely.

I am determined to write for Nerodi's Historical Challenge. It's a bit difficult though, as I have two specialties in historical eras: Middle Ages/Renaissance; and Victorian/Edwardian.

The trick is to get the dialogue just right, and I keep drifting between Chaucer and Shakespeare.

So . . . here there be snippet. Not even close to perfect, yet, but at least readable.

Medieval Clark and Lex )

That was really difficult to write. I am exhausted.

Maybe I should write it out in twenty-first century colloquial, and then translate it back into Middle English.

Sigh.

Opinions? Shall I keep going? Or is this idea brutally hopeless?
