Fellow grammar-Nazis, say it with me . . . .

The correct past tense of the infinitive verb to shine is SHONE.

Not "shined".

This unfortunate and uneducated error has been inflicted upon me NINE TIMES IN THE LAST EIGHTEEN HOURS.

Really. I started counting after the third occurrence.

I just returned from my cousin's baby shower, an event which has done nothing to improve my mood. I feel like I wasted a perfectly pleasant Sunday afternoon at a party for someone I don't even like. I had to go out and buy a present for the little bitch, which I deeply, deeply resent, and someone else got her the same thing, so I'm especially pissed off.

I give piggy banks for baby showers. ( If I really like you, there's money in it. ) No one else EVER gives that as a gift . . . until today.

Goddamnit.

I ate too much cake and now I feel all puffy. And thirsty. The chicken and the string beans were really good, though, so at least I had some reasonably healthful food. Not just cake. Even though it was tempting. :D

I can't believe how fucking extravagant showers have become these days. My twenty-five-dollar piggy bank was looking mighty paltry next to the gifts that people who barely knew her were giving.

Call me crazy, but I don't think that a distant relative who isn't particularly close to a mother-to-be should be spending five hundred dollars FOR A SHOWER GIFT!!!!

Un-fucking-believable.

I am broke as a stoat until Friday, which I loathe. I had to buy groceries with a rubber check. Cross your fingers for me that it doesn't bounce.

And I have writer's block again.

*wanders off grumbling*

ETA: As pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] lastscorpion, "shined [one's] shoes" is acceptable usage.

But you can't use "shined" when you really mean "shone"!

There. I have spoken.
