Politics. Of a sort.
Oct. 15th, 2003 02:23 pmApparently today is the official LiveJournal protest day regarding the sanctity of marriage as it applies to any and all combinations of genders.
I would post a button here in support, but I have no idea how that works.
I've heard from multiple sources that they oppose gay unions on the basis of the gay partners receiving spousal benefits.
What the fuck?
So we're supposed to deny an entire group of people the right to make committments to their significant others, based solely on gender, because you don't want to pay more for your company benefits?
That's the single dumbest excuse I've ever heard against homosexual marriage. And that includes my mother's lame-ass "It's just not right, honey!"
Oh, please.
You know something? I'm single and child-free. Why should I have to pay more for my benefits package just so that a bunch of idiot women who can't keep their legs closed can receive free benefits for their kids? Why should I pay for the benefits for the married folks, either? Hm?
Okay . . . so nobody wants to pay for benefits. Fine. From now on, employers are to provide free benefits only for the actual employees. Everyone else -- whether hetero- or homosexual spouses, children, or companion animals -- they all pay.
I have spoken.
When I rule the world, so shall it be.
