Mostly I caught up on my sleep deficit. I also had the bright idea to pull all the boxes of crap out of the guest bedroom and start rearranging things in there.

Of course, now that means I have boxes of crap stacked all over the living room, since I didn't finish the project. *sigh*

Took the car to be washed, and in time-honored and ironic fashion, the monsoons came. But at least I have a nice clean car.

I also went to Target ( shut UP! ) and bought a single chair for the patio. Now I can occasionally sit out back and enjoy the courtyard. Driving home was an adventure, because the chair would only fit in the front seat, and it kept hanging up on the gearshift.

Nothing like tooling along at 65 mph and suddenly dropping into neutral.

So I had to spend the rest of the ride, in last night's windy downpour, steering with my left hand and bracing the gearshift with my right. My shoulders are killing me today, as are what I refer to as my "wing muscles", which I suspect are actually the pectorals? I'm not as well-educated about muscle groups as I should be.

This weekend's viewing included Kinsey, which I've been meaning to see for, like, ever, although in my opinion it did not delve deeply enough into several issues, including the psyche of Alfred Kinsey and how his project evolved the way it did. The movie seemed more about titillation than biography, and that was a disappointment.

I might check out some books about Kinsey for further research.

Also slobbered over watched was Marco Polo. I cheerfully admit that I caught the first showing just to pant after Ian Somerhalder, who I happen to think is one of the prettiest boys to be hatched by the entertainment industry in the last few years. This is especially shocking, considering that I have a strong and decided preference for blonds. Still, he's lovely to look at, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that he's also a credible actor, above and beyond his brief role on Smallville.

I ended up watching the second showing and really enjoying it. Of course, the fact that there were a fair number of scenes where he's on his knees in front of somebody or other didn't hurt any. *wibbles*

And then there was Gypsy 83, which was mostly confusing. It took me awhile to realize that it was set in the present day, because frankly? How many Stevie Nicks wanna-bes do *you* see on the street every day? Yet there were tons of them back in the eighties. The title also threw me off.

You know, Sara Rue was so pretty when she was heavy. Now she's all flat-assed and pointy-faced, like every other fifty-cent actress in Hollywood. But in this movie, she had that lush figure and full face and I thought she was gorgeous.

The guy who I will always remember as Jeff Palmer on Smallville was her costar. He was very cute in his Goth makeup, and his gay sex scene was very hot and believable.

Speaking of gay sex scenes . . . I've noticed what seems to be a trend in scenes with straight actors playing gay. They all do that move with the hands-on-faces. At first I thought it was touching and intimate, but I'm starting to realize that it reads more like, "I don't know what to do with my hands and I'm not putting them on your ass!"

All the guys I've been with, and only *one* has ever taken my face in his hands for a kiss. I find it difficult to believe that just being gay means putting the moves on someone in a totally different way.

I mean, think about it. When you're kissing someone, you're touching the person . . . stroking hair, jaw, neck, shoulders . . . kneading muscles in back and ass, gripping upper arms, knotting hands in shirts . . . it's not just a kiss, it's a full-body experience, full of desire and sensuality.

In fact, I can say without a doubt that the only exceptions have been "first kisses" and when I'm not attracted to the person I'm kissing.

What? Oh, come one, we all occasionally kiss, fool around, and even fuck people we aren't actually attracted to. Don't play coy with me.

So this weekend, I also watched Near Dark, one of my favorite vampire movies. I never knew that it starred Adrian Pasdar!!!

Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] hackthis, but he was much prettier in 1987.

Aaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnd! Patriot Games! Wow, Sean Bean certainly looked a lot different back then. I didn't even recognize him -- of course, I was pretty much just comparing him to Boromir, but . . . you know. Damn, he looked hot as the terrorist bad guy.
